The Kim'soh are a race of humanoids native to the planet Kim'lar. Their similarity to humans is beyond the realm of accident, but no common ancestor has been identified. The Kim'soh were discovered by Averni explorers, but became client peoples of the Imperial Clan.
Physiology: Kim'soh look like small beautiful versions of conventional Empire humans, with metallic colored skin and pastel colors to their hair and eyes. Their homeworld of Kim'lar has a native gravity of 1.05 G, with an oxygen-nitrogen atmosphere conducive to Human life. Kim'soh females give live birth after a painless 37-week gestation period. There are at least a dozen "ethnic" variations of the Kim'soh species, but generally there are no significant differences between them.
Kim'soh females are fertile only during two periods each year, each period lasting 1/6 of the Kim'lar year. The occurrence of the fertility periods are distinct for each female, but a female's periods will tend to be similar to her relatives. Typically, the female undergoes no significant changes during her fertility period. Kim'soh and Humans share many genetic traits in common, including the fact that both have a lot of "junk" in their DNA. This "junk" in fact, makes them somewhat genetically compatible despite glaring genetic differences. About one in ten couplings between Kim'soh and Human result in a viable offspring, which demonstrates many of the traits of the Kim'soh parent.

Psychology: The Kim'soh homeworld has advanced civilizations ranging from TL5 to TL7, with the single most advanced society (nation-state) being TL8. Only the most advanced society was able to overcome the discrepancies of the genders. This was largely due to the thousand-year old religion which taught harmony between the genders. Kim'soh of this society tend toward a "pack mentality" viewing a "family" as consisting of three males, three females, offspring and parents. Most of the societies of Kim'lar practices various forms of gender-based slavery, and nations are typically hostile to each other.
Most off-world scholars agree that the arrival of the Empire on Kim'lar was the best thing to happen to the Kim'soh, if for no other reason than it saved them from themselves. Many of the Kim'soh societies never overcame the differences between the genders, and many of the societies engaged in truly horrible practices based on racism, sexism and other things; the Empire allowed the Kim'soh to escape from themselves.
Notes: As client peoples go, the Kim'soh are treated extremely well. The Kim'soh females are the second most intelligent sentients in the Empire, and the males are by far the most attractive humanoids within the Empire.
Many females have found work as social and physical scientists, and many of the males have found work in the entertainment industry.
During the Jihad, 10,000 females were "purchased" by the Dullon from their oppressive patriarchal homeland. While the people of Kim'lar thought they would become slaves of the Dullon, they actually became the most dangerous shock troopers the Jihad would ever have - the Valkyor - the Dullon's Handmaidens of Doom.
