Story

Dominick Lang was an automotive mechanic until six months ago when his power surfaced. He'd been working at the Firestone station, when a super-battle came through his building, splashing chemicals all over him. Then he stepped in a puddle of chemicals as an electrical cord fell into it causing him to receive an electric shock which would have killed any normal person.

Lang volunteered to be studied by the goverernment's Project: Superhero in the hope that they could help him control his power. Since arriving with Project: Superhero, he has spent a lot of time learning about electronics and computers. He has found that if he uses many computers at one time, he doesn't get so bored waiting for them (he's only allowed to use the mainframe on "off-peak" hours). His only solace is his computers. He also appreciates that the project can supply his food requirements (he eats two to five times as often as anyone else). He has had extensive counseling and is taking medication to help him cope, but so far it's only slowed his growing frustration.

Lang is a 24 year old Irish-Hawaiian male. His blond hair and red-blond beard are constantly growing and he is constantly trimming them (lately it's more like "hacking" than trimming), so they can be of any length. His eyes are light brown, changing to light brown with blue flecks when he is calm (a state he hasn't been in for over six months). He used to wear jeans and a t-shirt or mechanics jump-suit. Now, he wears angry, clashing colors and fashions - anything to express his inner turmoil.

His formal education is slim. Although he's always been intelligent, he barely finished high school, and then studied mostly the "shop" classes. Since his abilties emerged, he's taken a practical interest in biology and physics (to try to understand his powers), psychology (to remain sane), and computer programming (to give him something to do). He still tinkers with cars, and has taken up a broad range of electronics interests. He reads voraciously (mostly to avoid boredom). He's entirely self-taught, as the time distortion makes it phenominally frustrating for him to even try to study with others.

Campaign Role

Lang is a member of the Project: Superhero team. Other members include Dullon Duralloy, Gemini and occassionally Master Erik.

Personality

Lang used to be gregarious and friendly. He was an extremely ethical and moral man. However, as his powers drive him further away from a normal life he is becoming increasingly mean and amoral, although it will be a long time before he is an evil person. If he sees another in danger, or even in need of help, he will go out of his way to help, but do it as quickly as possible and try to avoid any personal contact. About the only way he can stand to deal with others right now is through a computer. He has found electronic mail and newsgroup forums a comfortable way to continue to maintain contact with people.

His life is defined by his powers. Lang no longer sleeps, but he still has to breath, eat and excrete. Unless he concentrates, he will subjectively experience time at five times the rate of normal people. Even if he does concentrate to slow it down, he is still living time twice as fast as anyone else. Needless to say, he's developing a lot of frustration. (Normal conversation is impossible, watching television is frustrating, trying to play a game with someone is slow, etc.) Lang got the codename "Fast Forward" from others - because to them, that's how he seems.

Abilities

Lang lives at an accelerated subjective time and does not sleep. He is a pretty good mechanic, and is developing his skills with electronics and computers. (For purposes of this character write-up, I'm using the "official rules" regarding Altered Time Rate and Speed.)

Battle Tactics

Fast Forward knows he is a lousy fighter and doesn't pretend to be anything else. However, his great speed gives him some remarkable advantages. Depending on the circumstances, he will either leave the area (and avoid the fight) or move behind his opponent and attempt to render the foe unconscious from behind. He knows how to use a gun, and has begun to carry one occassionally (when he does carry it, he carries it unloaded).
