The Imperial Clan was the second in to space behind the Terralopsians, and the first to exploit other worlds beyond their star system. They had discovered the Hubenka'Tor and the T'laren before they "discovered" the Terralopsians. Because of their superior technology and early presence in space, they tend to see themselves as the driving force behind culture and social change in the Empire.
The Imperials are human. They have genetic modification technology, but it's use varies. Generally, it is reserved for the colonies, although on Throneworld III, modification has become something of a social event among the wealthy and powerful.
