An AD&D character

7th level lawful good half-elf ranger, modified stalker kit (Dragon Magazine 1998 Annual)

Str 16, Dex 18, Con 14, Int 14, Wis 14, Cha 16, Hit Points 37

Weapon Proficiencies: sai, martial arts +1, spear, short bow, knife

Non-Weapon Proficiencies:  tracking +2, heraldry, running, animal lore, language (Common), language (Elvish), language (GM's choice of modern), herbalism, reading/writing

Special Abilities:  Tracking, Move Silently (65%) and Hide in Shadows (58%) work equally well in urban and rural environments.  His "racial enemy" is whatever criminal or monster he is tracking at the time.  Natural adeptness with animals. 30% resist sleep and charm spells. 60' infravision. Spot secret and concealed doors 1-in-6 when passing within 10'; rises to secret 1-2 on d6, concealed 1-3 on d6 when actively searching.

Special Hindrances:  He rarely stays in one place for long, and because he stalks criminals he tends to attract enemies.  As a ranger he is not permitted to collect or keep more wealth than he can carry on his person.

Equipment:  Two sai of quality (+1 "to hit"), leather gloves, tabbard, basic clothing, knife, ring mail +1, leather armor, potion of flying, brooch of shielding , gems and jewelry (portable wealth)

Background:  Pendragon was orphaned at age three when his merchant caravan parents and family were butched by brigands as they travelled through the lands of the Far East.  He was rescued by the warrior-monks who lived in the area.  Because the caravan and the monks had often traded (for both goods and services), they took him into their monestary and trained him as one of their own.  When he was old enough, he transferred to the city monestary where the monks were employed as city peace-keepers.  It was there that he further refined his detective and tracking skills.  After returning to the land of his birth, he founded the Lord's Falcon.

Personality / Motivation:  He seeks to perform good deeds, bring criminals to justice and hold those in power accountable for their actions.  He is comfortable dealing with everyone from peasants to the highest nobility.  Just as the monks were, he considers himself of a social class outside the normal structure.  Slaying a monster that is terrorizing farmers is as satisfying as exposing a royal courtier as a thief or scoundrel.

He walks everywhere and rarely sits.

Quotes:  "Sure, farmer, we can take care of that fire breathing lizard.  And we appreciate your offer; it has been a long time since we've had a hot, home-cooked meal."
"Based on the evidence available, it would seem clear to me, your excellency, that your son does not want to wait much longer to inherit your rulership

Powers / Tactics:  Unlike most of the Lord's Falcon, Pendragon does not have any special magical or mutant powers.  However, he does have his training as a ranger and peace-keeper.  His choice of weapons are highly unusual for the Greyhawk portion of Oerth, and this often gives him an edge in combat.  He has a near perfect sense of time.

Appearance:  Pendragon inherited most of his appearance from his human mother, with a tall muscular frame (6'2", 187 lbs.) and dark, wiry hair.  His eyes are elven violet and possessed of a penetrating stare.  He is still in his prime, but is showing flecks of silver (true silver, inherited from his elven father) in his beard.  He has several tatoos of totem animals and revered temple saints on his arms and back.

Campaign Use:  As the leader of the Lord's Falcon, he will rarely be encountered without them.  It is possible that he could be encountered any time before they were formed, either as the token occidental in a Kara-Tur or other "oriental" campaign, or as the wandering peace-maker / bounty-huntewith strange abilities in a more traditional AD&D campaign.
